How to Play Animenia
Your goal in Animenia is to collect the most image cards when the game ends. The game ends when no more image cards are left to draw from.
Follow these simple game instructions to start a game:
- The youngest player is the first player to flip over the top card from the face-down image deck. They place this card face-up in the center of the play area within view of all players.
- As soon as the first card is revealed, you must act fast! Be the first player to call out an image you have on your card that matches an image on the center card in play!
- The first player to call out the matching image collects the center card and replaces it with the card they had in front of them. Their old card is set aside to start their collection pile.
NOTE: Each turn, the player who collects the center card will be the person to flip over the next draw card.
- If the center card is a Let’s Duel card, all players flip over the cards in front of them to reveal their swords. The player with the biggest sword on the back of their card wins the duel.
That player takes the Let’s Duel card and adds it to the rest of the cards they have collected throughout the game. It gets added to their total count of cards at the end of the game!
- If you can’t determine which player called out the matching item first, they must have a Sword Duel tiebreaker! Each player tied for this matching image flips over their card. The player with the biggest sword wins the tie and takes the center card.
- When the draw pile runs out, the game ends! Players count the total amount of cards they collected throughout the game (including Let’s Duel cards). The player who collected the most cards wins the game!

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Animenia for ages 16+ only?
There are some suggestive images on the cards that may not be suitable for anyone under this age.
What if I don’t know the Anime that some of the images are from?
That’s no problem! If you don’t know the character or the anime it’s from, you can simply just describe the image.
For example, there is a black cat with a red bow named Jiji from the movie Kiki’s Delivery Service. Instead of calling out “Jiji,” you may also call out “Kiki’s Delivery Service,” “black cat,” or “red bow”.
Can I play Animenia if I’ve never watched Anime before?
Of course! The game box provides an image reference sheet that explains each image and what anime it’s from so you can review all of the images before starting a game.
