A Brief History of Quordle
In 2021, Brooklyn resident Josh Wardle began creating fun word puzzles for his mate. After sharing the puzzles with friends and family, he decided to produce the app for the game Wordle.
Wordle became an instant sensation as users shared their daily game scores on social media.
A group of Wordle fans decided to set the bar even higher by releasing a more challenging edition of Wordle called Quordle.
In 2022, Quordle gained popularity across internet gamers for advanced players. In this version, players work to solve four puzzles at one time, making it more complex and entertaining for challenge seekers!
What You’ll Need to Play Quordle
Everything you need to play is available on this digital app.
Quordle Rules
Upon downloading the Quordle app to your device, you can play Quordle daily.
The screen displays a keyboard of letters on the bottom and four upper quadrants composed of squares. The letter bank will change colors as you select different letters to track which letters are needed in each word.
If you cannot download the app, you can simply visit the website to play Quordle.
- The first step is to type in a 5-letter word. It does not matter what word you type; however, selecting a word with 5-different letters and preferably several vowels would be helpful. Some examples of starting words might be peach, ghost, clear, or blink.
- After you type your initial guess, it will display in each of the four quadrants of the screen. You’ll notice that some letters will appear in various placements and colors.
Guessing Letters and Words
- If the letters appear and are color-coded yellow, that means the letter is in the word but in a different position in the word.
For example, if I typed the word “clear,” and the r was colored yellow, that means there is a letter r in the word, but it is not located in the final position.
- If the letter appears and is color-coded green, the letter guessed is located in the correct position of the word.
For example, if I typed the word “clear,” and the e was colored green, that means there is a letter e in that position of the mystery word. For instance, if I guessed “clear” and the mystery word was “clean,” every letter would appear green except the r.
- If a letter is not located in the mystery word, it will be shaded grey. This shading indicates that you have already used the letter, which is not needed for this game.
For example, if I typed the word “ghost,” but the mystery word was “claim,” every letter would appear grey because none of the letters g-h-o-s-t is located in the word “claim.”
Quordle gives you nine opportunities to guess words. The tricky aspect is that you must determine four mystery words simultaneously. Once you guess an initial word, you’ll see the green, yellow, and grey letters used.
If you can determine the words quickly, you’ll have more points by the end of the game.
You must guess real 5-letter words. If you type a nonsense word, it will not submit.
How to Keep Score in Quordle
