Black Card Revoked Card Game Rules and Gameplay
There are numerous re-editions and updates of this popular game, including the newest Edition X celebrating the 10th anniversary of the original game’s release.
But since I only have first-hand experience with the first (and probably still the most popular) edition of this game, my rules guide applies primarily to this game.
Rest assured that the principles and mechanisms stay the same throughout all the newer editions of this game, so this guide should help you regardless of the version you own.
Starting the Game
First, in this game, each player receives a set of response cards: A, B, C, and D. Each player also starts the game with 10 points.
Then the player designated a “host” for the round shuffles the deck of question cards thoroughly.
The host now draws the top question card and reads it aloud to the whole group, including the four optional answers marked A, B, C, and D.
How to Play Black Card Revoked
The questions on the cards are divided into several topic categories, such as music, movies, history, life, etc. Here are a few examples of what to expect:
- Who is the best rap artist out right now?
- Why shouldn’t a woman buy a man a pair of shoes?
- You witness a fight. What do you do next?
The questions include the ones with a single correct answer (the symbol of a ticked box) and those that can only be resolved by the majority rule (the symbol of lightning).
The players have up to 10 seconds to decide on the correct answer. Then the host asks them to reveal their answers simultaneously by showing the corresponding cards.
Does the question have a single correct answer?
- Everyone who answered incorrectly loses one point.
Does a majority vote decide the question?
- The players who answered differently from the majority lost one point each.
In the next round, the host’s role moves clockwise.
Black Card Revoked Scoring
Card games typically end when one of the players wins. Black Card Revoked, on the opposite, continues until one of the players loses all 10 points and gets their Black Card symbolically revoked.
My tip: If you like this game, you can start with 20 points each to make it longer!

Black Card Revoked Frequently Asked Questions
Can Black Card Revoked have multiple winners?
Yes! This game ends at the moment when one of the players loses, so all the remaining players are, technically speaking, winners of the game.
What do you do with the Black Card Revoked used question cards?
Make sure to put each question card you have already answered on the side. Using a single question repeatedly in this game does not make much sense.
Can you add your own rules to the Black Card Revoked game?
Yes! The manufacturer even encourages adding your own house rules to the game.
